Take uneven movement seriously.
A cable concern may become visible at the edge of the door or through a change in how the door sits. One side may appear lower, or movement may stop unexpectedly. Do not assume the cable is the only part involved. The door, lifting arrangement and related hardware need assessment as a system before a repair scope can be confirmed.
Do not pull it back into place.
A lifting cable is not something to reposition while trying to hold the door. Avoid pulling on the cable, moving brackets or repeatedly using the opener. A door that is no longer supported or travelling as intended can behave unpredictably. Explain whether the door is open, partly open or closed, and whether there is another way into the garage when you make contact.
Consider the surrounding conditions.
Mention visible rust, moisture exposure or an earlier impact when describing the fault. In a coastal setting, hardware condition can be a useful part of the wider maintenance conversation. Avoid diagnosing failure from the suburb alone: sheltered and exposed properties can differ, and the actual condition is what matters. Once repaired, ask what inspection or care routine is recommended for the particular installation.
